One-Day Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR): Building and Creating Awareness for IPR

 On 28 March 2026, S D College of Management Studies, Muzaffarnagar, under the aegis of the Institutions Innovation Council (IIC) and SDCMS Incubation Foundation, successfully organized a One-Day Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) titled "Building and Creating Awareness for Protecting Creativity, Innovation and Intellectual Property Rights." The workshop was sponsored by the Council of Science and Technology, Uttar Pradesh (Department of Science & Technology, Government of Uttar Pradesh) with the objective of promoting innovation, creativity and awareness regarding Intellectual Property Rights among students, researchers and faculty members.


The program commenced with the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the distinguished dignitaries including Dr. Alok Kumar Gupta, Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Dr. Sunil Kumar Yadav, Ms. Swati Varshney, Dr. Sandeep Mittal, Mr. Mukul Jain, Dr. Vibhuti Aggarwal, Mr. Prashant Tomar, Dr. Shubham Tayal, Mrs. Ritu Mittal, Mrs. Babli Tomar and Mrs. Parul Kumar. The dignitaries emphasized the growing importance of protecting intellectual assets in todays knowledge-driven economy. Dr. Alok Kumar Gupta welcomed the guests and highlighted that innovation and creativity become valuable only when they are legally protected through Intellectual Property Rights. The distinguished resource persons were felicitated with mementoes and certificates as a mark of appreciation.


The workshop featured a series of highly informative technical sessions conducted by eminent experts from academia, industry and the startup ecosystem. Dr. Sanjay Kumar explained the significance of Intellectual Property Rights in promoting innovation and entrepreneurship, illustrating his session with practical examples from successful organizations and startups. Ms. Swati Varshney delivered comprehensive sessions on Patents, Copyrights, Trademarks, Geographical Indications, and Intellectual Property filing procedures, legal protection mechanisms and the role of IPR in the digital era. She also discussed the opportunities and challenges associated with protecting innovative ideas and encouraged participants to safeguard their intellectual creations through appropriate legal frameworks. Dr. Sunil Kumar Yadav motivated participants to develop an innovative mindset and explained the role of Intellectual Property Rights in protecting innovations, technology transfer and commercialization. Mr. Mukul Jain conducted an interactive session on real-life case studies involving patents, copyrights and trademarks, followed by an engaging question-and-answer session addressing participants queries on innovation, startups and IPR protection.


The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from 200+ students, researchers and faculty members representing SDCMS and neighboring institutions. As Co-Convener and Co-Coordinator, Dr. Shubham Tayal expressed confidence that the workshop would serve as an informative and motivating platform for participants, encouraging them to strengthen their innovation journey while understanding the importance of protecting their intellectual property through appropriate legal mechanisms. The workshop concluded with the distribution of participation certificates, a positive feedback session from participants, and a formal vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Vibhuti Aggarwal, who expressed gratitude to the Council of Science and Technology, Uttar Pradesh, the resource persons, the college administration, IQAC, the Institutions Innovation Council (IIC), SDCMS Incubation Foundation, faculty members and all participants for their valuable support in making the program a grand success.
